Details Regarding Our Name Change

We are thrilled about the growth and momentum in this church! We want it to continue and we also want to facilitate the growth as best we can.

Our original name, West Houston Christian Church, stated very clearly that we were a "Christian Church" as well as gave a geographical description--we're located somewhere here in the western part of Houston.

Sometime later the name changed to "Grace". It's a beautiful Biblical word - and we need to understand that it was also a rather trendy word and at that time was being used by a number of different churches.

When you mention the word "Grace" to describe a church in Katy or in the greater Houston area, there is confusion! A lot of confusion! If we were talking confusion with just one church that's one thing...but as you can see by the map in the sidebar to your left, there are many churches with the name Grace in them. That doesn't include Christian organizations or other businesses. Just churches.

So with love and due respect for those who chose the first name "West Houston Christian Church" and our name "Grace"...we decided to take a very bold and fresh step in making our church stand out by changing the name to

"Current... A Christian Church."

You also need to know that nothing, about who we are as a church is changing. Nothing about our doctrine or beliefs is changing. We are an independent Christian Church and always will be; which is reflected in the new name.

There are many powerful and Biblical themes represented in the name "Current ... A Christian Church." The current of God's power is available to us and flowing in us through God's Spirit. Picture the current of living water, God's love and forgiveness that flows from the cross. All are invited to receive the free gift of the water of life. This name also speaks to our mission and purpose as a church. We belive God's Word is current, relevant and applicable to our culture today. We want to be a church that speaks the message of God's transforming love, directly to our current culture.
